Howl 02.24.10

I thought of so many things with this word! Allen Ginsberg, the song 'I wish I was the moon tonight' by Neko Case. . beautiful things and nature. What a strong word.

Clamor 02.10.10

I wanted to show the protest and noise of this word, but still have it seem kinda fun!

Entropy 02.09.10

This is an awesome word that I now sorta understand! The example I found is this: The active nature of entropy is easy to grasp, If a glass of hot liquid is placed in a colder room a potential exists and a flow of heat is spontaneously produced from the cup to the room until it is minimized (or the entropy is maximized) at which point the temperatures are the same and all flows stop. whew!

Locker room 02.08.10

A room having lockers for clothes, etc. This one was just too easy :)

Explain 02.08.10

Downy 02.04.10

Gavotte 02.03.10

Delicatessen 02.01.10

I just realized I forgot the first e in the pig. . well now I know to double check carefully! I think this really describes the word. Not only is the pig the logo (of sorts) for cured meats, but also for the movie of the same name made in 1991.

Geostatics 01.31.10

Okay. This was tough. But finally after some research and consideration, I felt that making the word look like a topograghic map was the closest I was going to come to getting an understanding and still illustrate the word.

Depute 01.29.10

Darwinism 01.28.10

The biological doctrine of the origin of species through descent by natural selection with variation, advocated by Charles Darwin. Using the same image idea of evolution, I gave it a design/typography twist. Starting at D, one of the earliest fonts (dated A.D. 114 Rome) to the nineties font Insignia by an amazing designer Neville Brody. Still freehand! Had a couple of small boo boo's. .

Flaxen 01.27.10

I never knew there were so many different varieties of the flax species!

Coal scuttle 01.26.10

I wanted to make the words look like an old coal scuttle :) I think the o in coal looks like a piece of coal too. . nice touch!

chop chop 01.25.10

I just realized I did not write the definition on these two! It's been a crazy couple of weeks! Anyway, chop chop was spread through chinese workers at sea and has been used in America since the 19th century. It means quick! or hurry up! I guess I just imagined the words running and piling up because they are rushed.

Dowsing rod 01.24.10

Finally I am back to it. A Dowsing rod is the name for a stick that is used to find ground water, buried metals and gemstones. The name comes from divination which means to foresee and/or be inspired by god.

Exchanging blows makes me think of boxing, so I though it would be fun to have the word look like the Everlast logo on a glove!

Attar 01.09.10

My inspiration with this word was a mix between The Vienna Secession and Cleopatra. I wanted the word to look like it was a label for a brand of essential oil during a previous era.

Aftermath 01.08.10

So my first word was Aftermath. My initial thought was of Hurricane Katrina, and then it developed into the environment. I tried to show the reaction to our actions toward each other and our planet.
